At the end of
each year the Society prints a small card suitable for inclusion in wallet or handbag,
detailing the monthly meetings during the coming year. If you cannot collect one at our
meetings, we will send one . Members get theirs automatically: non members, please inform
the Editor and enclose a reply stamp.
The
appeal we have already made still stands: any press cuttings, photographs or old concert
programmes of the ALCESTER SILVER BAND are needed; these things are being collected with a
view to celebrating the centenary of the Band. Any responses to the Editor, please.
We
are frequently asked to display old photographs and other relevant material. In 1993 two
such displays were provided in Alcester Library as part of their 'Country-side' project
and 'European Year of the Older Person' We also displayed at Alcester Town Hall and
Studley Village Hall.. It is thought that it would be a nice feature to show old
photographs and other pictures as a regular feature at our monthly meetings: this
commenced in October. It is a pity if our collections are kept locked away in our files,
unseen except by the Society's archives keeper.
In
October a large congregation attended the funeral at Haselor church of Miss Rachel Smith:
she and her sister had supported our Society for some years and we extend our condolences
to her sister. They have been well-known in the area for their long association with
Haselor school, having taught there hundreds of present inhabitants of Haselor and the
surrounding villages.
The
Society is sorry to lose the services of Mr. Ron Bray, who is leaving the Committee after
many years. Ron has been a loyal attender at its meetings and has always been ready to
offer his services when duty calls. The Society is grateful to him.
